Announcement from the Honorable Gerald L. Melton, 16th Judicial District Public Defender

Our office will sponsor a CLE training seminar for criminal defense attorneys on the subject of community corrections. It will be a "nuts and bolts" presentation centered on things criminal defense attorneys need to know about community corrections. The presenters will be experienced practitioners from a judicial district where community corrections has been in place for a long while. Plans are for the seminar to be in February. Details will be announced later. I understand that the group running the local community corrections program has been invited to speak at an upcoming bar meeting. They spoke to our office yesterday and it was most informative. I encourage all members of our bar to attend the bar meeting for their presentation as they are able to give a good overview of the program being put in place here. In short, attorneys should attend both presentations. The group from Mid-Cumberland will explain community corrections in general terms as well as their administrative procedures. Our seminar will be practice oriented.
