In light of the congested dockets in Juvenile Court, Judge Donna Scott Davenport wants to remind attorneys that the Circuit and Chancery Courts have concurrent jurisdiction with the Juvenile Court over paternity actions (T.C.A. Sec. 37-1-104(f)). Attorneys may wish to file such actions in Circuit or Chancery Court in order to obtain speedier trial dates. Likewise, Judge Scott Davenport will entertain motions to transfer such actions to Circuit/Chancery Court if already pending before the Juvenile Court. We anticipate that the Juvenile Court dockets will become much less congested next spring, when the new Juvenile Justice Center opens.
